Strategic planning helps firms define their mission, vision, and values while developing actionable plans for long-term success. I have studied various strategic planning models, including EOS, the 4 Disciplines of Execution, CEO Tools, and Blue Ocean Strategy, and have developed a process tailored to maximize success for accounting firms. My planning retreats follow a structured three-stage approach:
Stage 1
Pre-Retreat Preparation
Before the retreat, I conduct key preparatory activities, including conference calls, questionnaires, a review of essential financial metrics, and finalizing the agenda. This ensures a focused and productive session.
Stage 2
The Retreat
The retreat takes place offsite, allowing participants to step away from daily responsibilities and focus on high-level strategic thinking. As an active facilitator, I go beyond simply guiding discussions—I leverage my 30+ years of experience in the accounting profession to introduce best practices, proven strategies, and effective activities. The retreat itself is a live, immersive process lasting 1 to 1.5 days.
Stage 3
Wrap-Up & Implementation
Following the retreat, your firm will receive all relevant materials, including handouts, notes, presentations, and benchmarking data, in electronic form. Additionally, optional follow-up coaching and accountability sessions are available to ensure successful implementation of the plan.
